I am working on a research project for a period of time. At first we do not know the rich text format is preferrable, so there are about 20 primary documents are Microsoft Word format(.doc), and they are coded.
Now some errors happened, like the direction of the sentences, the space between paragraphs et.al.

After reviewing the similar topics posted on this board, I still don't know how to do, except for converting all 20 documents to RTF files and do the coding again.

Thank you very much!!

Until a better solution is found, there are some possible and probably simple
changes, which could quicken us:

1. Introduce a further button for super families directly in the manager
near to the families, so that we don't need so many steps to open them.

2. When we Ctr+click the manager buttons, Atlas.ti opens e.g. family managers.
I suggest to introduce Shift+Ctr+click to directly open super family tools,
and/or offer them also in a small list, as in the case of Ctr+click on the code
manager button.

We shouldn't need three steps to open the super family tools. One or two
are enough and possible as I think.

Thanks, Michael

because it makes possible to manage the whole research related files together
in the PD Manager.

In the moment we click on such a file in the PD Manager drop down list, Atlas.ti
opens it as text file. I would like to suggest to improve this behavior, so that
it better answers the typical user need in such a situation.

It makes no sense to code such incompatible exotic files in their hieroglyphic
text version, but it makes sense to organize them in families, to comment and
open them in their original environment (software).

SUGGESTION 1: display their thumbnail instead of their text version and near
to it a button to open the file in its original application.

SUGGESTION 2: for exotic files we cannot code, Atlas.ti should allow to edit
them using their original application. With other words to ignore such changes.

Thanks, Michael

Dear all,

I'm trying to link codes directly in my primary document. I.e. in the right window next to my text by clicking first on one code, holding down shift and dragging it to the related code. Unfortunately nothing happens and I can not create a link.

Only via the code manager it is possible to create such links. However this is extremely uncomfortable when having to scroll between >200 codes.

Can anybody give me advice how to directly code links in the PD? Or is this not possible, since links are managed on a higher logical level (i.e. only in the code manager)?

Thank you a lot!!!

Before we code and organize our data, we only have document names which
aren't necessarily a good orientation. But even after coding and organizing,
we only can navigate by our own structures or starting complicated search
actions. But why only this, when there is already so much more information?

Suggestion: a customizable, visible index (special interface) would additionally
offer many new impulses an let us discover new aspects or simply quicken
many of our searches.

LINGUISTIC ENGINE

Answers are often as good as the asked questions.

- If we simply ask (search) for “violence”, then we only find this word!
- We can extend this using: violen* or even viol*
- We can even begin to add synonyms, hypernyms, hyponyms etc.: force,
aggression, fury, war, hostility, ferocity, riot, sadism, beat, battle, knock,
punch… and many, many other kinds of associations, which can be grouped
in diverse search swarms.

The many alternatives we use, the many eventually relevant places we can
identify in our documents.

Problem: this takes a lot of time!

Fact: a computer can help us with such things!
There already exist a lot of linguistic systems for all kinds of needs.

Suggestion: create an own “linguistic engine” and/or cooperate with
people which provide something like that, and make possible that Atlas.ti
enables the use of common linguistic information a computer can already
automatically offer, to quicken our swarm building or make our searches
more exact.

Why should the user invest so much energy in things which are
already done by other specialists?

The user should only customize such things and better spent his time with
really important structural thoughts and his own innovative ways.

Thanks, Michael

I would like to suggest to improve this support, allowing us to better exploit
internet resources and standards. I suggest two "small" but helpful things:

WEB-Memos

Introduce a new kind of memos: WEB-Memos! The memo would be nothing
else than a link to an URL, similar to the common favorite links managed by
web browsers.

Also allow the import/export of such links from/to common browser.
For an active internet user, such lists are important collections of relevant
addresses.

An every interesting or important website could be directly connected to
our projects, and its URL managed as memo within our HU. Things which
belong together would be together!

(I could imagine many ways to create such memos. One of them would be
to simply drag the URL link from the browser into the memo manager)

WEB-Search for the current code

I don't know if technically possible, but it would be very effective to not only
generally use Google to search for a code, but to can specify a more exact
address like Wikipedia, to search using Wikipedia's engine within its own
database. With other words: Atlas.ti would start Wikipedia, introduce the code
into its search field and start the search.

I could imagine to create a list of many search places and use them alternately
depending on needs.

I also suggest to introduce ALT+F to automatically search the web for the
current standard search address and the currently selected code. This would
be quicker than using the menu entries.

Thanks,
Michael
